As the summer heat rolls in the skies begin to clear, it’s the best time of the year to hit the course. As more destinations across the country reopening for business and restrictions being lifted, this is the perfect time to try out new golf courses for the summer. Whether you’re able to travel or some of these courses are near you, these are the best golf destination for summer:
Virginia: Birdwood Golf Course and Belmont Golf Course
Virginia is one of the best destinations for golf lovers in the United States. Beautiful warm weather and spectacular golf courses are abundant with the state. Plan a trip to the redesigned Birdwood Golf Course at the Boar’s Head Resort in Charlottesville. This course is very popular amongst golfers since its opening last July and was honored as Golf Magazine’s 7th Best Course in Virginia. This course offers 18 new championship golf holes, a new six-hole par-3 course, and a putting course that is nearly an acre in size.
While in Virginia, also be sure to pay The Belmont Golf Course a visit. This course was the host of the 1949 PGA Championship and has also been redesigned. The Belmont Golf Course offers golfers 12 restored A.W. Tillinghast holes, a 6-hole par-3 course, and a reversible 18-hole putting course.
Arizona: Los Caballeros Golf Club and Whirlwind Golf Club
The Phoenix-Scottsdale area of Arizona had the most had more entries in our Golfers’ Choice U.S. Top 50 list, so it is a must-see destination for golfers this summer. In Wickenburg, Arizona, Los Caballeros Golf Club has wowed golfers with its challenging 135 slope rating and their signature hole 13th hole. To truly experience desert golf, head to the 36 championship holes of The Whirlwind Golf Club. Their Cattail and Devil’s Claw courses are a crowd favorite plus beautiful views of four mountain ranges.
San Diego – Torrey Pines, Park Hyatt Aviara, and Maderas Golf Club
Nothing says summer like sunny California; more specifically, San Diego. Torrey Pines will be hosting the U.S. Open this summer. Their most popular South Course has been extensively renovated with a new look and is more than likely going to be even tougher with the approaching nation’s open. San Diego is also home to the Park Hyatt Aviara, which has recently made $50 million improvements. While enjoying the beautiful sandy beaches, head over to their beautiful Arnold Palmer-designed course with undulating fairways and native wildflowers.
Named on the Golfers’ Choice 2021 list, Maderas Golf Club is a gorgeous desert detour 90 minutes east of the coastline. Offering a “unique combination of golf course strategy and design mastery”, Madera Golf Club embodies the concept of upscale golf.
