Although COVID-19 has made it next to impossible to go out, that doesn’t mean people can’t stay in shape. People, especially athletes, still need to maintain their physical stature. While going out is incredibly risky, people have plenty of ways to stay in shape. Here’s how athletes can stay in shape during the coronavirus pandemic.
Eat a Healthy Diet
A lot of people think that in order to stay in shape, they need to eat less and exercise more. This isn’t exactly true. The key to getting in shape isn’t to eat less, it’s about balancing physical activity with a sensible diet. The body can only handle so much before it starts to run low on energy, so exercising incessantly without proper nutrition is never a good idea.
A diet filled with fruits and vegetables provides the body with the energy it needs. Aside from providing the body with nutrients, a well-balanced diet also reduces the risk of cancer, improves a person’s memory, and helps with weight loss. Furthermore, a balanced diet helps strengthen the immune system, which reduces the risk of contracting COVID-19.
Keep up With Physical Activity
Speaking of physical activity, it’s important to get as much as possible, especially during the pandemic. In fact, it’s been scientifically proven that staying stationary for long periods of time can cut a person’s lifespan by about half.
The options may seem limited, but in truth, even walking around the house for 20 minutes is considered exercise. There are plenty of ways to stay in shape despite being quarantined. Some of these methods include:
- Push-ups
- Sit-ups
- Jogging in place
- Jumping rope
- Lifting weights
- Doing yoga
- Watching a tutorial on a certain exercise
- Using a treadmill
- Using an elliptical
- Stretching
Granted, no one has to do every one of these methods to stay in shape. Just go with whatever is most comfortable and easy to do. However, it’s important for people to pace themselves and only do as much as their limit allows. With how limited everyone’s movement has become, it can seem almost impossible to stay in shape. However, with a little creativity, it’s easy to stay shape and maybe even lose a pound or two.
